When a city becomes the perfect stage for a love story, the result is nothing short of magical. This was exactly the case for Sonnja and Alexis. Their wedding not only brought two souls together but also crafted a romantic and timeless narrative in the heart of Mexico City’s Historic Center.
Casa Seminario, a venue rich in history and charm, became the ideal setting for a celebration where flowers, décor, and love beautifully complemented the classic architecture of the space.
A surprising proposal
Sonnja and Alexis met during their time at university. Although they studied the same degree, they were in different years. Over time, they felt an undeniable attraction toward one another. After eight years together, Alexis knew it was time to begin a new chapter in their story. He planned a proposal in Chapultepec Forest, a place that held many memories of their love and adventures with their dogs.
“It was completely unexpected,” Sonnja revealed. “I can still feel my heart racing.”
A historic venue with a unique charm
After an extensive search, Sonnja stumbled upon a photograph of Casa Seminario and immediately fell in love with its character. This historic space, with its restored furnishings and iconic views of the Zócalo, Sagrario Metropolitano, and Templo Mayor, felt like the perfect venue for their special day.
“We wanted a place that carried its own rhythm and soul,” they shared. Casa Seminario delivered exactly that.
Its central patio, with its elongated shape, was transformed into a warm and intimate dining area. A long imperial table brought their 80 guests together for a heartfelt and cozy dinner.
Dözna Floral Studio: the perfect décor ally
The décor was nothing short of a visual masterpiece. Dözna Floral Studio created stunning arrangements that resembled the beauty of a wild garden, featuring Cosmos, Amaranths, and Anthuriums in warm yellow hues. They artfully transformed the central patio into a scene straight out of a dream.
Long taper candles lit the space, while hand-painted clay bowls, textured dinnerware, and crystal and silver accents tied everything together. Every detail reflected the essence of Sonnja and Alexis—welcoming, authentic, and full of love.
“We wanted everything to feel as though it had been naturally gathered, but with impeccable care and thought,” Sonnja explained.
Overcoming challenges to create something beautiful
Hosting a wedding at a historic venue like Casa Seminario came with its own challenges. Coordinating within the boundaries of Perimeter A in the Historic Center, navigating city logistics, and working within a space not designed for events required careful planning, creativity, and discipline.
Despite the hurdles, the couple found immense joy in designing every element of their wedding. Sonnja immersed herself in crafting the color palette, stationery, and floral designs, which became the visual centerpiece of the celebration.
A day to remember
Sonnja and Alexis closed this chapter of their story with immense gratitude to the vendors who helped make their dream come true. Their wedding was more than a beautiful event; it was a testament to collaboration and the magic that happens when love and artistry come together.
“Casa Seminario was the perfect stage, but Dözna Floral Studio brought it to life. Together, they made this day not just perfect, but ours.”
