“My Mother and Samuel are both from Tampico. Sam has been best friends and next door neighbors with My First cousin Gerardo since the 2nd grade. I would spend most of the summers in Tampico but our age difference kept us from crossing paths but I always admired him from afar. One summer my mother sent my sister and I to vacation at my uncles hotel in Puerto Vallarta where Sam was staying with Gerardo. We had instant chemistry and spent the entire trip inseparable even though Gerardo wasn’t too pleased eventually he got over his overprotective nature and the rest is history” Pau
The Proposal
It was my birthday weekend and my friends and family from Florida were planning to come to the city to celebrate with me. Sam offered to plan a special birthday brunch for me. Friday night we went out and partied all night, the next morning before my birthday brunch Sam surprised me saying he booked a room at my favorite hotel in NYC, The Gramercy Park Hotel. After checking in he suggested we kill time before the brunch by walking around Gramercy park which only gives access to residents and hotel guests. As we approached the fountain he got down on one knee and had arranged for photographer to capture the moment. After the proposal he had admitted that the birthday brunch was actually an engagement party and we continued to celebrate throughout the night! Its a weekend I will never forget!
The love story
Sam and I spent the majority of our relationship long distance. When we met I was living in Florida just starting college and he was living in Mexico City. In order to see each other with our busy schedules we vowed to try and make time once a month to meet. We spent the next 7 years meeting each other in places we have never visited before : San Francisco, New Orleans, Georgia, different parts of Mexico. It was a true adventure. Being long distance to most would seem like a very difficult relationship to have but for us it felt effortless. We knew we were meant to be together and we were willing to wait until time brought us together. Many cities and degrees later time finally brought us together. Eventually after graduating college and going back for more school and achieving my goal of becoming a nurse we needed to choose a city to start our lives together. We both decided NYC was the best city in the world to do it.
